GEORGIA HIGH SCHOOLS State Step Championship | RULES & REGULATIONS
Entering Competition – Doors open at 12:00 pm
Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your arrival time to complete any uncomplete forms; Please be on time as a TEAM
Submit registration, media, medical release forms & cashier check to our SSC Staff at the entrance desk ( Make it payable to "GHSSSC – STATE STEP CHAMPIONSHIP");
Sponsors please check webpage for your arrival and performace schedule;
Sponsors please check webpage for warm up time and our SSC Staff will alert you to come out to warm up(includes SOLOS, DUETS, STROLL performance)
TEAM Entering Competition – Doors open at 12:15 pm
Students who are participating in SOLO Division, Duet Division and Stroll Division; please check in at 12:00 pm and our staff will escort you to your dressing room;
At least one (2) representative from each step team is required to attend the event; MUST WEAR TEAM SCHOOL SPIRIT
Each reprensentative will wear a SSC Passport Badge – LIMITED 2 REPRESENTATIVE
All step teams are required to provide their own transportation to and from this event;

JUDGING CRITERIA
Each division will consist of 4 judges and one technical judge. The Judges will score the teams according to the judging categories based on a scale of 100 point system. A total of 400 points.

JUDGING PROCEDURES
The judges for the competition will be appointed at the sole discretion of State Step Championship. There will be four officiating judges and one technical deduction judge assigned to each team. The judges will score the teams using a 100 point system. The judges' scores will be added together to determine the overall team score.
TECHNICAL DEDUCTIONS
Deductions are based on a – (5) five point system and may include over limit on minutes allotted to compete, missing costumes, shoes etc. Profanity in music/choreography.
SCORES AND RANKINGS
Individual score sheets are for the exclusive use of each judge. Each judge has the responsibility and authority to review and submit his or her final scores and rankings prior to the final tally of the scores for all teams. Score sheets will be available only to sponsors or directors mailing address or mailed to the teams school. No scores or rankings will be given over the phone.
RULES AND PROCEDURES:
Any questions concerning the rules or procedures of the competition will be handled exclusively by the sponsor or director of the team and will be directed to the Competition Directors.
All questions should be addressed prior to the next day after the competition.
And questions concerning your team's performance should be made to the Competition Directors immediately after the team performance and/or following the outcome of the competition.
UNFORSEEN CIRCUMSTANCES
If, in the opinion of the competition officials, a team's routine is interrupted because of failure of the competition equipment, facilities, or other factors attributable to the competition rather than the team, the team affected should STOP the routine. The team will be allowed to perform the routine from the beginning. The degree and effect of the interruption will be determined by the competition officials.
ROUTINE INTERRUPTION
In the event a team's routine is interrupted because of failure of the team's own equipment, the team must either continue the routine or withdraw from the competition.
The competition officials will determine if the team will be allowed to perform at a later time. If decided by the officials, the team will perform the routine again in its entirety, but will be evaluated only from the point where the interruption occurred.
INJURY
The only persons that may stop a routine for an injury are 1. Competition officials, 2. Sponsors or Directors, 3. An injured stepper on the team. The competition officials will determine if the team will be allowed to perform at a later time. If the competition officials allow a routine to be performed at a later time, the spot in the schedule where the re-performance is to take place is at the sole discretion of the competition officials. The team may perform the routine again in its entirety.
The injured stepper/participant that wishes to perform may not return to the competition floor unless:
1. The competition officials receive clearance from the medical personnel, parent (if present) and the sponsor or director of team.
2. If medical personnel does not clear the participant, the participant can only return to
The competition if a parent or legal guardian in attendance signs a return to participation waiver form.
SPORTSMANSHIP
All participants agree to conduct themselves in a manner displaying good sportsmanship throughout the competition with positive presentation upon entry and exit from the performance area as well as throughout the routine. The sponsor and choreographer and/or director of each team is responsible for seeing the team members, parents and other persons affiliated with the team conduct themselves accordingly. In the event of a severe case of unsportsmanlike conduct are grounds for disqualifications.
JUDGES DECISIONS
By participating in this competition, each team agrees that all decisions by the judges will be final and will not be subject for review. Each team acknowledges the necessity for the judges to make prompt and fair decisions in this competition and each team therefore expressly waives any legal, equitable, administrative or procedural review of such decisions.
TIME LIMIT:
Division: Time Requirements (must not exceed time below)
Solo Steppers will have a maximum of (3 – 5 ) minutes to demonstrate their style and expertise.
Stroll Step Teams will have a maximum of (3 - 5) three minutes to demonstrate their style and expertise(no tricks that cannot be performed).
Duet Steppers (3 - 5) three minutes to demonstrate their style and expertise.
Co-Ed Step Teams will have a maximum of (8-10) minutes to demonstrate their style and expertise.
Female Step Teams will have a maximum of (8-10) minutes to demonstrate their style and expertise.
Male Step Teams will have a maximum of (8-10) minutes to demonstrate their style and expertise
In order to keep the competition on time, teams must enter the performance floor as quickly as possible. Teams will have limited time to enter the floor and start their routine. Elaborate choreographed entrances is not advised as this can run into your allotted step time required. Please do not choreograph excessive entrances, as this can result in 5 point penalty. Each team will have 8-10 minutes to perform, including the introduction and exit steps. Two (2) steps will be deducted for each minute overtime.
*Dancing is only allowed during the introduction & exit steps. Inappropriate dance moves while performing are NOT permitted.
STROLL Routine Rules
Please note Stroll Routine is 3 – 5 minute long and no tricks that cannot be performed in the stroll. Maximum deduction will be issued if Stroll rules are not followed!
Avoid being redundant (repetitive) in your strolls. Your team SHOULD NOT perform the same stroll for 3-5 minutes. IF so, points will be deducted. Feel Free to change your choice of music as well or add a short skit.
MUSIC
· 1. Each team must have a coach/representative to play their music. This person is responsible for bringing their music to the sound booth or music table and pushing "play" and "stop" for the team.
· 2. All music must be on a CD. SSC recommends that you bring two copies in case sound system has trouble reading you CD.
· 3. All CDs must be clearly labeled with the school/team name and or contact person.
· 4. There must only be music intended for completion ONLY on CD. ( no tapes)
· 5. Timing will begin with the first choreographed movement or note of the music. Timing will end with the last choreographed movement or note of music, whichever is first.
· 6. Profanity, offensive or vulgar music is not allowed, automatic deductions and possibly disqualification.
PROPS
Props are allowed. A prop can be defined as anything that you step with that is not attached to your costume. Articles of clothing may be taken off.
TUMBLING, TRICKS AND Step LIFTS
· Tumbling on the performance surface is allowed.
· Step Trick: An action in which steppers executes a skill with support from one or more steppers. Supporting and executing steppers.
· Jumping or leaping off a stepper is allowed.
· Tossing a stepper is allowed as long as there is hand/arm contact with at least one other stepper throughout the skill.
* Dancing is only allowed during the introduction and exit steps
It is highly recommended that you send in a video of any difficult routine, tumbling, tricks or lifts to SSC Committee for review. This can be done by submitting a DVD or via email via our website.
AWARDS AND TROPHIES
SOLO DIVISIONS, DUET DIVISION, STROLL DIVISION AWARDS
Top 3rd Highest Score: This award is given to the top 3rd soloist performance, duet and stroll division from 3rd place to 1st place each division
CO-ED, FEMALE, MALE STEP TEAMS DIVISION
Top 3rd Highest Score: - This award is given to teams with top highest scores from 3rd place to 1st place each division
* **TEAM PARTICIPANTS**
There are no limitations as to the amount of division a school competes in. Participants must be a STEPPER for that division full time during the academic school year and participants must attend the high school in which they are competing with to compete at SSC Competition. In the event that a STEPPER or TEAM drops out of the competition after the registration deadline, Refunds will not be issued. A credit towards next year's competition maybe issued to STEPPERS OR STEP TEAM. Refunds for registration will not be issued after February 29th, 2016 and/or after the competition date of Sunday, April 17th 2016.
